How You Use Wave Is The Real Test
// October 17th, 2009 // Google Wave, online tool
As I see It how we use Wave is the least of the challenges! The issue in our case is is getting past the digital divide and getting the technology that enables it’s use into these businesses! Email is quick, a glance via mobile and text. This is an engaging technology. It needs to be a available through a personal device!
Wave will help extend the conversation beyond events with a Wave I could actually walk you through an event or a collection !
Once we figured out what and how it works the next question was “how.” We’ve found in the past that adaptation is higher when we provide a guideline. But Imagine the impact of extending events and programs using media and direct conversation over Waves! Follow op after a Tradeshow will take on new meaning not a big deal for a large corporation, but for a small local business… a huge difference!
We’ve been testing how technology will change the way we presently do things, or more importantly how the way we currently do thinks can be improved using technology!
The Tech world is previewing Google wave, the one thing we’ve learned as an early adapter, it’s not the tool but how you use it that makes a difference! We need individuals to actually test it as part of their regular operational strategy!
To open a wave to the public is ineffective if there were no access to the Wave… So the first step; distribute the invites so that we can actually test use scenarios! Desigenrs, Buyers, consumers, fashion bloggers! We’ve extended the work in our community in 2 fashion, a theater project, Media and a general technology group. Each lead will get an invite with the intent that hey can distribute their invites to key members oof their project! the others went to females in social and traditional media!
I figured that we had 2-3 weeks to get a firm grasp of this, before everyone has their accounts and we can truly test! In the mean time it’s about setting up sample waves…
In the last post , we listed some ideas, now to actually execute and expand on them! So what do these look like? How will they find be found. I’m not a fan of the public Waves.
At the end what is the reader expected to “DO”? What result to you want to trigger and how will a wave be structured?
Currently many of the designers do a custom design service that is in high demand and profitable! It’s also time consuming and costly! Wave could cut the initial contact by half saving time and money! What would that wave look like what functionality!
What about media interviews and press junkets how much more, intimate direct exclusive! A couple years back a manufacture in India was designing some collars for the US market , with Skype we were able to review the actual product, he made changes before going to market , how much more effective would an approval Wave be when compared to an email! If he forgot one sample it’s a trip to the stock room not, the airport and an easy insertion! into a blip!
The tools already exist, taped or streamed video, chat, streamed pictures, we’ve been placing them on various pages, or wikis using color changes in text and revision history, now theoretically it can be simultaneously done by several people! that is amazing!
So this week our goal is to actually create these types of Waves and test how they function.
