About The Brooklyn Project - 2009 in retrospect (coming Soon)
In simple language I walk creative entrepreneurs through the adoption adaptation and integration of new media and technology. Our project test a lot of the theories that are often put out as facts without concrete proof!
AS I SEE IT until “IDEAS” are tested in real business situations they are simply “THEORIES”. Even then… Only those that withstand rigorous testing can be accepted as FACTS…. AS I SEE IT expertise is gained through hours spent in practice, and not as a result of hundred’s of tweets! As I see it The Fruits if your labor is what qualifies you in Life!
.
I’m an Artist, designer and product developer. My teenage son describes me as a geek I am more of an enthusiastic Digital Alien. I am a Trini Living in Brooklyn, New York! If you were to check my profile, on some sites you’d probably find the following
“Bonnie Sandy is a fashion designer who now runs DeMarketPlace, a Brooklyn based (& soon Virtual) support program, helping creative individuals, utilize new and emerging media and tools to set up independent businesses. She also curates, Brooklyn Fashion Gallery an online gallery that extends offline, providing a venue for designers, artist and entertainers connect to Buyers, Boutiques, Shoppers, Bloggers & Press and Fans! And is in the final Stages of “mashing together” a virtual platform, www.brooklynfashionweek.com, for designers to access trade opportunities..
Her focus is on art of making; the Business of making http://bit.ly/iamny and how emerging technology affects making http://bit.ly/fcny09!
She is also one of the founder and one of the volunteer planners of FashionCamp which takes a broader look at technology in Fashion, Beauty and home sector.
Expertise is defined as over 10,000 hrs spent “doing a task”.
With over 30 yrs spent in fashion design and product development my expertise as such is small/micro enterprise with a specialty in custom fashion design and creative product development.
My formal training is from NY Fashion Institute Of Technology. I have apprenticed with master crafts men/women from all corners of the world. In late 2003/4 I turned my attention to technology as a tool for economic stimulus and survival.
Our projects focused on independent business start ups among artist and creative in urban areas with little or access to resources and/or funding.

What I do
Since 2003/5 we published the first blog post focusing on Brooklyn Fashion, to inform local artist and participants. I’ve channeled my passion for creativity and the “cottage” industry into the Artist Mosaic project, a series of components that explore creative enterprise and test emerging theories through practical situations involving “real” creative entrepreneurs. Since then have steadfastly explored new media and emerging technology.
In 2007 observing the growing economic shortcoming and financial stress faced by the businesses we were challenged to create a virtual more practical solution for their marketing and sales needs. In the process we observed that the process needed to be streamlined from product development right through to distribution to be effective! Essentially an offline project, we have been refocusing our attention towards a more integrated approach and are currently “testing our theory through practice.’
In simple language I walk creative entrepreneurs through the adoption and adaptation of new media and technology.and test a lot of the theories that are put out as facts.
